newborn photographer
Mia O'Neill is an internationally published newborn photographer based in Hilbert, Perth.
She specialises in calm, baby-led newborn sessions for families across Byford, Armadale, Mundijong, Serpentine, Bedfordale and Perth's south east.
I almost didn't submit.
That little voice, the one that whispers "your work isn't good enough, don't bother" — almost won.
But I hit send anyway. And somewhere between the self doubt and the quiet hope that maybe, just maybe, someone else might see what I see in these images, something unexpected happened.
My work was published in The Photograp|her| Magazine.
Not once. Four times. Three times in the same publication in a single year.
I'm still pinching myself.
What Is The Photograp|her| Magazine?
The Image That Keeps Getting Chosen
The images selected from Four O Photography are newborn sessions, the quiet, intimate moments between parents and their brand new baby that I capture from my home studio in Hilbert, Perth.
A sleeping baby. A mother's face as she breathes in her newborn.
These are not dramatic images. They are not technically complicated. They are simply real and I think that is exactly why they keep being chosen.
In a world of over-edited, over-posed photography, images that feel genuine stand out. Images that make you feel something stand out.
That has always been my goal. Not perfect. Real.
What This Means For Families In Perth's South East
I share this not to show off — but because I think it matters to the families who trust me with these moments.
When you book a session with Four O Photography, you are booking a
photographer whose work has been recognised internationally. Whose images have been selected four times from submissions across the globe. Whose eye for connection, light and emotion has been validated not just by happy clients, but by an industry that knows what it is looking at.
And I do all of this from a warm home studio in Hilbert, serving families across Byford, Armadale, Mundijong, Serpentine, Bedfordale and Perth's south east.
You do not need to travel far to find internationally published photography. It is right here in your community.

A Note On Self Doubt
I want to say something to every creative person reading this who has ever talked themselves out of submitting, applying, or putting their work out there.
I know that voice.
I have listened to it more times than I care to admit.
My journey into newborn photography was not a straight line. I started out photographing families, cake smashes, maternity sessions, a little bit of everything.
But I am a mum. To twins.
Those early days with my babies were a blur of love and exhaustion and overwhelming, bone-deep awe. I remember looking at them and desperately wishing I could slow time down. Wishing someone had captured those moments more for me, the weight of them, the smell of them, the way they fit perfectly in the curve of my arms before they grew too big and too fast and too independent.
That feeling is why I photograph newborns now. Only newborns. Because I know exactly what those first days feel like and I know how fast they disappear.
But knowing why you do something and believing your work is good enough are two very different things. I have second guessed myself constantly. I have looked at other photographers and wondered if I am measuring up. I have almost not submitted, almost not posted, almost not shown up.
The images that got published? I almost didn't submit them. They felt too simple. Too quiet. Not dramatic enough.
They were chosen anyway.
And that is the thing about self doubt, it lies. It tells you that ordinary is not enough, that quiet is not enough, that real is not enough. But sometimes the work you think is too simple is exactly what the world needs to see.
So if you are a creative person sitting on work you are afraid to share...
Submit the thing.
Send the email.
Hit publish.
You might just surprise yourself.
